The Artist

“Art to me is a constantly evolving experience which emerges from many sources, i.e., personal experiences and feelings, family, friends, everyday situations, memories, fantasies, the ocean, Native American culture and especially my spiritual beliefs. I do not limit myself to one particular medium nor one specific subject matter. My paintings are like explorations into these different paths.”
- Aurora
A native New Yorker, some of Aurora’s fondest memories were when her mother would take her on day long outings to the Museum of Art and Natural History, as well as the Botanical Gardens and Planetarium. Great places for a child’s imagination to run wild and nurture her love of drawing and coloring, two of her favorite pastimes. After her high school graduation, Aurora and her family moved to Puerto Rico, where she was immersed in the Island’s varied culture, music and beauty.
Although, for the most part, a self-taught artist, Aurora has studied under some wonderfully talented and experienced artists. Barbara Jean Sullivan, a well known Las Vegas artist, introduced her to explorations of oils. William Pajaud, a nationally known artist, now based in California, launched her into the world of watercolors, opening a whole new realm of exploration into the excitement this medium can bring. Jeanne Polidoro, a wonderful artist and art teacher of 30 years experience, introduced her to the richness of pastels which Aurora uses to obtain the smoothness of children’s skin in portraits. Aurora also had the opportunity to delve more deeply into pastels, under the guidance of Jose Bellever, artist/teacher. In addition, Aurora is a member of Left of Center Art Gallery in Las Vegas, NV where she shares not only warm friendships but the exchange of creative ideas with well known Vegas artists such as, Vicki Richardson, Harold Bradford, Sylvester Collier, Adolfo Rodriguez, Jack Wilson and Earl Dunbar to name a few.
